LAttente 300x.jpg

It is spring 1881 in Paris and France is beginning finally to recover from the horrors of the defeat in the war with Germany ten years earlier and the semaine sanglante that ended the heady days of the Commune so brutally. France’s new Third Republic is beginning at last to find its feet.

Someone is killing prostitutes in Paris and, perhaps more strangely, someone is killing their murderers too. Anarchists or aristocrats? It’s another case for Chief Inspector Drangnet of the Paris Sûreté. His unorthodox investigation leads him through the marble halls of the Palais de Luxembourg and the Palais Bourbon as well as deep into the violent world of the Les Halles market community.

He can only find the solution with the help of a woman who threatens his reputation, his life-long bachelorhood and his life.
